Local Chambers of Commerce for CO1 2QL. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. What you put in is exactly what you get out. Below is the national site. Watch this slot - it might improve!
Colchester Borough Council

Colchester Borough Council

Rowan House, 33 Sheepen Rd, Colchester CO3 3WG, UK – 01206 282222

Saw a property that required renovating and extending for our private use. Went to Rowan House, unannounced, and had a short meeting with one of the officers, which proved very helpful. I purchased the property, had plans submitted. Everything went smoothly and any comments were of a constructive theme. A pleasing experience.

HM Revenue & Customs

Fantastic dental surgery. Staff are professional, courteous and do their utmost to make your visit a positive experience. A. Marshall in particular is wonderful. She was thorough, professional and friendly. Highly recommend.

Great dentists and a great service. Highly recommend for a first class service.

North Hill Dental

46 N Hill, Colchester CO1 1PY, UK – 01206 577912

Excellent and professional service! I am a nervous patient when it comes to having dental treatment and find the staff very understanding. Always explain well and check I'm ok at every stage. I have also found the general time keeping / waiting times to be brilliant too, never sat too long before being seen too. All in all a brilliant and friendly dentist and would highly recommend.

I've been using this dentist for the past 7 years and find them very helpful and efficient. They rebuilt my front teeth after they were damaged and did a great job doing so. They were also fantastic with my son, who's 2 and just had his first appointment. Thank you.

The Smile Clinic

39 St Botolph's St, Colchester CO2 7EA, UK – 01206 767471

I love my dentist !! He has restored my faith and makes me feel relaxed. Takes time to explain every thing and is a dab hand at extractions !!! Busy practice and lovely staff. The new receptionist is very calm under stressful situations with the public and is very helpful. I am a bit disappointed..I have emailed about my disappointment at being charged ANOTHER 243 pounds for the same treatment set because time has run out...but that's because we are unable to get appointments for weeks and they have cancelled twice. But my concerns have been totally ignored. Such a pity as I was pleased with the service but now I realise it is just about the money

Best dentist i have ever been too. Hygienist Jo is Brilliant, very gentle. Everyone there is 1st rate

Parsons Heath Medical Practice

35A Parsons Heath, Colchester CO4 3HS, UK – 01206 864395

The staff are always polite and helpful. I get appointments quickly and I feel that the level of care I have received is always excellent. They explain procedures in a clear and concise way. When I need letters they have them done within 48h. I have seen the team deal with difficult people in a polite and professional manner. If you are kind to the staff they are so wonderful to you. Please and Thank you go a long way.

They've changed it so you can no longer get appointments on the day and they'll always try and do a consultation over the phone. Good staff though and very friendly

Mill Road Surgery

She truely is one of the best GP's I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Well done & a massive thank you from our hearts.

i should say so helpful๏ผŒ thanks for all of staff

University Health Centre

University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Colchester CO4 3SQ, UK – 01206 794484

All of those 5 stars go to Dr Michele Wall. The BEST GP I have ever met. I graduated last year, but during my time at university I struggled with a lot of mental health issues. They are still ongoing and I honestly wish I could have taken Dr Wall with me.. I've had countless GPs snub me or misdiagnose me or not take me seriously despite my obvious distress. Dr Wall never did that. She convinced me to try medication and asked me to come back every two weeks to make sure I was doing alright. She sat with me for up to an hour sometimes and just let me talk through everything going on in my head. And she not only understood on a personal level, but she was very knowledgeable about mental and psychological health issues. I felt totally at ease to express myself and completely in control of my own treatment.. Cheers Dr Wall, you deserve a medal :)

The reception staff are generally quite helpful, and the medical staff are excellent - professional, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile. I think there is some truth in some of the other reviews regarding the booking system etc, but I truly believe that's down to the immense pressure the NHS is under at the moment - and the fact that this single health centre has had to have a patient list of almost 13,000.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Colchester General Hospital

Turner Rd, Colchester CO4 5JL, UK – 01206 747474

Today I attended Colchester General Hospital for day surgery in Copford Ward in Constable wing. I was highly impressed by the whole experience. Procedures were well documented and accurate. Every member of staff was warm, comforting and thoroughly professional. The theatre staff of theatre 8 were particularly caring, Dr Bennett and all of his team made me feel totally at ease. Many thanks to all involved with my procedure, you are all great!

I have visited the hospital twice in the last two weeks and have the reception to be excellent, the staff very polite and helpful in making you feel comfortable and relaxed. The treatment was of the highest standard and felt I couldn't be in more professional surroundings. I left feeling very impressed and the hospital should be congratulated.

The Lakes Mental Health Hospital

132 Turner Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5JT, UK – 01206 228712

I've done several stints of rehab here and whilst the later hospital is more locked down, clinical treatment is good and if you are scared, violent and have to be restrained, this is done with the minimum force, no deliberate brutality. It's cheaper than The Priory, so if you've gone on a trip you can't get yourself down from, ring their number and ask to speak with a crisis team or ask your GP to refer you. It can be very scary due to the nature of patients being emotionally disturbed. My only gripe is there is understaffing and presumably the pay isn't great for the staff so they need longer hours, which doesn't help this most highly stressed situation. Another problem I've encountered is issues surrounding section paperwork. You are entitled to legal representation and advocacy if you are to be held in a rehab facility against your will, this is not always forthcoming. Worst still patients under section have been asked to sign other paperwork, including adoption forms, immigration, criminal confession and other life changing issues when they are legally not in the capability to sign them. Essex Social Services are the most regular breakers of that law and this needs to be exposed. That said, there's a good community spirit among the patients/inmates (if it's got locks it's by definition a prison) , and great chances to learn from each other as well as the excellent staff and community volunteers of all grades. You can learn a lot there, it would be a good place to learn about mental health and Anglia Ruskin University has used the facility in in-work training schemes for nurses and doctors.

Very good

Amazing service. They were able to help and support me. They were pro-active and they really dealt with the situation, I was pretty impressed I must say. I would highly recommend them.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Colchester

Sloppy Joe's American Bar & Restaurant

37 High St, Colchester CO1 1DH, UK – 01206 577229

Food is really good, however they had no ribs when we went! A bit sad given it's so called high reputation. Prices were fair and the staff polite and helpful.

Large, filling plates. The menu is simple but broad offering a full selection of American type dishes. The pasta is amazing having great full taste.

Noodle Zone Restaurant

19-21 Crouch St, Colchester CO3 3EN, UK – 01206 575111

The noodle zone is our favourite "too tired to cook" restaurant. It is always welcoming, the food is always carefully prepared and excellent value for money. The Malaysian specialties are great, and for comfort food, the noodle soups are terrific: won ton soup and duck soup are our favourites. Watch for the specials.

The food here is really really good. I am not even joking. I really like the Malaysian food! Highly recommend Nasi Lemak or their Malaysian set meal if you want to try the Malaysian food๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

Church Street Tavern

3 Church St, Colchester CO1 1NF, UK – 01206 564325

Utterly Flawless... Great Atmosphere, Great Food, Great Service The Church Street Tavern is a small backstreet gastro-pub. Decorated with an eclectic assortment of living room furniture, it boasts one of the most uniquely intimate and friendly atmospheres I've encountered in a long time. Service is warm, welcoming, and attentive, without being intrusive, and the selection of drinks is above average. As for the food, the sirloin here is one of the finest steaks I've eaten outside the continental United States, and could easily hold its head high in any Texan steak house. Side dishes were prepared perfectly, and the entire ensemble was of frankly excellent quality. Full marks all round. I'll be coming back here soon.

Lovely bar and restaurant located in the centre of Colchester. Always busy at weekends, great cocktails and a good selection of beers. Plenty of seating including some outdoor. The food here is really very good, well worth a stop.

St Mary's School

91 Lexden Rd, Colchester CO3 3RB, UK – 01206 572544

Brilliant school exceptionally well run with dedicated teachers. Maintaining high standards of learning and fully appropriate behaviour in a modern world. My daughter had and now my grand daughters also will benefit from this experience. Thank you, St Mary's.

Colchester High School & Nursery

15 Wellesley Rd, Colchester CO3 3HD, UK – 01206 573389

We think Colchester High School is a gem of a school. Our two children have thrived here. Academically they progress well and are achieving, but this school is about so much more. Children are individuals not numbers, they are taught values to become independent learners, inquisitive, kind, respectful to others and rounded human beings. It is a town centre school so doesn't have flashy grounds or acres of parking but if you look beyond material interests, it is a school which will nurture and value your children.

My Children have been at CHS since nursery and have just progressed into Seniors, they LOVE their school. Thanks to all the staff especially the sports department.
