Dental Surgeries

North Hill Dental

46 N Hill, Colchester CO1 1PY, UK – 01206 577912

This dental practice has been excellent throughout the process of diagnosing and treating gum disease, fitting implants and (now) maintenance and hygiene. All the dental, nursing, hygienist and reception staff are very nice to deal with. They are always happy to explain the treatment and to do as much on the NHS as possible, as well as clearly laying out the different options. Recommended.

I have been a client of the North hill practice for over 20 years and have seen many dentist come and go but I have always been well looked after. My appointment this time was 20 minutes late so it would be helpful if the receptionist could inform the client if the dentist is running late, I often have another appointment afterwards. I also managed to get a hygienist appointment the next day so that was great, Hannah was very professional. Thank you all.

Mile End Dental Clinic

13A Nayland Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5EG, UK – 01206 752500

I had my upper teeth straightened with a "cfast" brace under Dr Pourvaziri in early 2017. I would highly recommend him and the procedure. He clearly explained everything that was happening, he answered my many questions, I was never rushed in any of the appointments or in asking questions, he told me everything honestly. The process took about 5 months in total. I am incredibly happy with the result and so glad I took this step. I love my front teeth which have been straightened and have an improved shape.

Amazing and pleasant experience. I had to have two teeth taken out. Dr. Nagy Dominik was amazing and just before the procedure he could sense I was worried so he stopped, explained what he was doing and asked if he could continue. This fully put me at ease and I trusted him, again throughout the procedure he was letting me know what he was doing. I thought having teeth out would be daunting but he and his team made it a very pleasant experience and I would highly recommend this dental practice.

Bupa Dental Colchester, Ipswich Road

316-318 Ipswich Rd, Colchester CO4 0ET, UK – 01206 844242

I am a very nervous patient and I have been to lots of dentists and had lots of bad experiences which has really out me off going to the dentist. I have recently been to Bupa on Ipswich road and I don't mind going back because the team there looked after me very well. The reception staff were very kind and understanding and my dentist, Andrew Logeswaran, and his dental nurse looked after me so well and really put me at ease, I recommend anyone who is a nervous patient to go see the team, at Bupa.

I have had a fear of dentists for the last 30 years but Andrew (dentist) and Faye (nurse) were great, they took their time and reassured me the whole way through. This is the first time in 30 years I've let a dentist near me without being knocked out. Thanks again 😁

Wimpole Road Surgery

52 Wimpole Rd, Colchester CO1 2DL, UK – 01206 794794

Found this surgery to be very good! The Receptionists are very friendly and welcoming and take time with patients. The doctors and nursing staff listen to the ailments which are troubling you and recommend different options. Have had many health problems and these have been treated well and involved specialist treatments. The one doctor I found condescending and rude was a female elder doctor who has thankfully now left. Wonderful place and the fact you can book appointments and prescriptions online makes life easier.

North Hill Surgery Dr Baldwin & Partners

18 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ, UK – 01206 578070

While some of my friends and family find it difficult to find a doctor willing to listen to them and to suggest more than taking paracetamol, I found here one of the best GPs I have ever talked to. Dr. Claire Cooper always pays attention, takes one's worries seriously, listens carefully and sent me for future medical investigations every time it was the case. I think she does a brilliant job and I am happy that there are still people like her in the NHS.

University Health Centre

University of Essex, Wivenhoe Park, Colchester CO4 3SQ, UK – 01206 794484

All of those 5 stars go to Dr Michele Wall. The BEST GP I have ever met. I graduated last year, but during my time at university I struggled with a lot of mental health issues. They are still ongoing and I honestly wish I could have taken Dr Wall with me.. I've had countless GPs snub me or misdiagnose me or not take me seriously despite my obvious distress. Dr Wall never did that. She convinced me to try medication and asked me to come back every two weeks to make sure I was doing alright. She sat with me for up to an hour sometimes and just let me talk through everything going on in my head. And she not only understood on a personal level, but she was very knowledgeable about mental and psychological health issues. I felt totally at ease to express myself and completely in control of my own treatment.. Cheers Dr Wall, you deserve a medal :)

The reception staff are generally quite helpful, and the medical staff are excellent - professional, friendly and always willing to go the extra mile. I think there is some truth in some of the other reviews regarding the booking system etc, but I truly believe that's down to the immense pressure the NHS is under at the moment - and the fact that this single health centre has had to have a patient list of almost 13,000.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Oaks Hospital

120 Mile End Rd, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5XR, UK – 01206 752121

Very nice and professional staff. Top standard care.

This place looks and feels like a premium hospital (very clean), I went here for a gastroscopy, the staff here are great and professional, the process took a while to go through and there was a wait, but thats because i was referred here instead of being a member (as such) as it tooks a few weeks to get the actual gastroscopy appointment. The gastroscopy appointment itself was fine, they know exactly what there doing and was glad to be referred here. Also the parking was free, which is always a bonus, specially as I never carry change with me.

Colchester General Hospital

Turner Rd, Colchester CO4 5JL, UK – 01206 747474

My elderly father has just had a hernia repair and the care, attention and expertise has been exceptional. The level of staff morale appears to be very good. Staff are very busy yet very helpful and kind. Many thanks to all the dedicated staff on the Elective Care and Elmstead wards and the expertise of Consultant Jo Reed and her team.

Today I attended Colchester General Hospital for day surgery in Copford Ward in Constable wing. I was highly impressed by the whole experience. Procedures were well documented and accurate. Every member of staff was warm, comforting and thoroughly professional. The theatre staff of theatre 8 were particularly caring, Dr Bennett and all of his team made me feel totally at ease. Many thanks to all involved with my procedure, you are all great!

The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Colchester

Na-Ree Thai Restaurant

10 North Hill, Colchester CO1 1DZ, UK – 01206 560633

Excellent food, eat in or take out, well priced too. Not many Thai restaurants come close, we aren't local but often collect when we are in Colchester it's that good. If you eat in the staff are nice too! The spicy salads are worth a try.

Firstly, the food is just amazing and so are the staff, however it's so cold in there! We had a yellow curry and a green curry, both tasted so fresh and clean/healthy, plenty of rice too. The layout of the food was very nice as well, the curries were kept very hot by a candle underneath, my rice came in a china bowl with a lid and my girlfriends just in bowl. The only reason I knock i star off is because it's so cold inside, I know it's an old building but at least turn the heating on. It does affect the whole dining experience, I was too cold to take my jacket off and had no desire to stay after we'd finished. We paid and went off to a warm bar for few drinks instead. Despite this I would still recommend this as the Thai restaurant to go to just down to the quality and taste of the food.

Nando's

Aburi Japanese Restaurant

19 Short Wyre St, Colchester CO1 1LN, UK – 01206 769226

We love this restaurant and have been visiting since it first opened. But with 3 young kids we really don't get to eat out very often so when Aburi started doing delivery, hubby and I are over the moon. Yes, it's not the cheapest but Japanese food is often more expensive in this country. Nice generous portions and very authentic taste (I am oriental so I should know). If you eat in, the service is always very friendly and we have never had any problems with our deliveries either. Highly recommend this place πŸ’•

Had a great meal, its a nice comfortable restaurant with friendly staff. A real joy when we have a chance to eat here.

Having visited various nurseries in the area I can honestly say that in my opinion Lexden Montessori offer a incredibly high quality level of care at a suprisingly affordable price.

Colchester High School & Nursery

15 Wellesley Rd, Colchester CO3 3HD, UK – 01206 573389

At the time of writing my son is in the reception class at Colchester High School and my daughter is in the nursery. I cannot fault this school and am genuinely grateful for all it has done so far to help my kids, particularly my son settle into their education. Children are seen as individuals here and the teaching is excellent with full differentiation to ensure each child reaches their potential academically. There is also a strong emphasis on sport starting from nursery age which my two absolutely thrive on. With its quirky array of somewhat charming Victorian buildings that lay home to so many wonderful staff and students, the school is a very welcoming place. I feel as though my family are part of a warm and friendly community that will always do its best to guide our kids through the most impressionable years of their life. A positive buzz runs though the school at all times and from what I can see, this stems from the school’s ability to create happy confident kids with good values. The interaction between different year groups is a lovely thing to see. At the school disco, my four year old son was chatting to a group of eight year olds. They all know each other and are all friends! A great place :)

We think Colchester High School is a gem of a school. Our two children have thrived here. Academically they progress well and are achieving, but this school is about so much more. Children are individuals not numbers, they are taught values to become independent learners, inquisitive, kind, respectful to others and rounded human beings. It is a town centre school so doesn't have flashy grounds or acres of parking but if you look beyond material interests, it is a school which will nurture and value your children.
